8. Thirds are combined into triads and tetrads (chords). They are visually organized in the same way, like LLL or SSS. For example:
Triads and Tetrads on Staff

There are 7 triads on the C major scale. The notes in triads follow the rule: "the root note, the third note from the root, the fifth note from the root". Each of this triads may represent a different type of chord, say C major, D minor, B diminished, and so on, but visually they follow the same rule. Studying triads is a great way to memorize the fretboard and get yourself in intimacy with music theory: they are the main building blocks of music. Notes forming triads and tetrads are positioned on the fretboard diagonally from a group to a group, except for strings 3 and 2. Playing along these lines you can go through all triads and tetrads:
Guitar Diagonals

Practicing triads in C major key go up and down the fretboard along or across the strings. To check your memory, here is a triad exercise of all C major scale triads of the guitar. Non-unison triads are also present. Number in squares designate the fret groups of the lowest note in a triad.
