Golden Gate Bridge- Start the walk at the San Francisco end of the bridge. Below is Fort Point built in the middle of 19th century as a part of fortification system of American California to protect San Francisco Bay.

Walk along the bridge is a favorite attraction for many local inhabitants as well as for many tourists, visitors of the city.

The bridge is a part of highway 1 stretched along the Pacific coast and connecting all sea-side towns and bays. Locally it connects San Francisco and the Peninsula to the northern part of San Francisco Bay Area: Marin county. Closest attractions there are Sausalito and Muir Woods.

The height of the bridge allows even the largest ships to pass easily underneath. At this picture you can evaluate how incredible this is.

Golden Gate Bridge Cable - Start the walk at  the trail from San Francisco. Here you can see the cable and the Joseph Strauss statue, an engineer who build the bridge.

This is a perfect illustration of power of steel. It is difficult to imagine by an unprepared mind that two of these cable less than a meter in diameter but consisting of about 27,000 wires hold the weight more than 800,000 tons. It is about the same as a cube of water 100 meters in length, width and height.

On the Golden Gate Bridge - Panorama - Here we are at the panoramic place at the center of the bridge where you can touch the cables. This place is about 70 meters above the water - still lower than the Statue of Liberty height: 93 m. We are at about the waist of the statue. Still high enough for the largest ships.

This is an east-directed panorama of the San Francisco Bay with Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, and San Francisco cityscape. Pacific Ocean is on another side of the walk.
